When You Vote I Win is a voter mobilization organization based in the state of Michigan and travels throughout country engaging citizens on the importance of civic engagement.

Built on the story of its two Selma Foot Soldiers we utilize numerous tools to present an educational experience on the history surrounding voting in America including its recently released documentary, Selma Sisters March On. Our offerings include, but are not limited to:

How We Got Here

Our story started 60 years ago, when two sisters walked together across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965.

Within our communities there exist needs that only the government can supply.  The vehicle afforded to bring those resources to our community is policy that is converted into law, and receiving the needed resources requires us as individuals to cast our ballot and vote for candidates that will fight for our needs.

When You Vote I Win is an organization founded and directed by Charles Thomas, Jr., a direct descendant of Alice Moore and Denise Holt.  Alice and Denise were two members of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in 1965, at the ages of 16 and 14, respectively. These powerful ladies marched and protested in all of the actions of the 1964 and 1965 Selma Civil Rights movement. They were two of only 300 individuals who made the march all the way from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.

When You Vote – I Win is an extension of that work that resulted in the signing of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

We are honored to build upon Moore and Holt’s legacy. The privilege of them continuing the work and being a part of their team makes the work rewarding. They honor us with their effort and continued advocacy as we seek to honor them.
